Post-Professional Doctorate of Occupational Therapy

The Post-Professional OTD program at Howard requires 34 credit hours for completion - 18 hours of core advance theory requirements; 6 credit hours of evidence-based practice and applied research; 6 advanced elective credit hours, and 4 credit hours of a faculty mentored doctoral capstone project.

Entry-Level Doctorate of Occupational Therapy

The Howard University Department of Occupational Therapy is Proud to offer an Entry-Level Occupational Therapy Program Leading to a Doctor of Occupational of Therapy (OTD). The department is uniquely privileged to be among the few providers of and entry-level OTD in the nation’s capital. The program has a rich history of excellence in leadership, graduating highly sought-after therapists, and developing national and international health professionals. The Doctorate of Occupational Therapy program is designed to prepare students as entry-level occupational therapist and generalists.

Dental Hygiene Program

The Program of Dental Hygiene was established in the College of Dentistry in 1934, and graduated its first class in 1935. In 1947, educational requirements extended the curriculum to a two-year course of study. The program awards a Certificate in Dental Hygiene and is approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation

Continuing Education

The College of Dentistry offers this program to dentists, dental hygienists, and dental assistants in an effort to assist them in maintaining their professional skills. The program presents the newest methods and materials and provides an opportunity for the acquisition of new skills and knowledge. Its objective is to assist in the continuation of the best dental care for patients.

General Dentistry Practice Residency Program

The General Dentistry Practice Residency Program at Howard University is a one year postdoctoral education program which offers the dentist an opportunity for advanced comprehensive clinical experience in a hospital environment. In addition, the trainee receives postdoctoral training in the sciences basic to dental practice.

Advanced Education in General Dentistry

The Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) residency program at the Howard University College of Dentistry (HUCD) is a one-year certificate-granting course of study and development which offers the newly or recently graduated dentist an opportunity to expand the capability to provide high-quality comprehensive clinical care to a diverse population.  The foundations of ethics, professionalism, compassion, and evidence-based practice are woven throughout our didactic and clinical activities.

Pediatric Dentistry Postdoctoral Program

The program in Pediatric Dentistry is a two-year program beginning in July of each year. Six positions are authorized for the first-year class. The program is designed to meet the requirements of the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Orthodontic Postdoctoral Program

The Department of Orthodontics at Howard University College of Dentistry instructs our pre-doctoral dental and dental hygiene students, and postdoctoral residents in the didactic and clinical recognition and treatment of malocclusions. The department is proud to provide an opportunity for the best in orthodontic care at minimal costs to the surrounding communities.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a four-year program beginning in July of each year. The program is designed to meet the requirements of the Commission on Dental Education Accreditation of the American Dental Association, the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. 

International Dentist Program

This program affords a dentist who received a dental degree from outside of the United States to matriculate, in the third year of the pre-doctoral dental program, after calibration and competency assessment. The candidate joins the third year dental class (D3) and completes the obligations for receipt of a DDS degree within two years at Howard University College of Dentistry (HUCD). To be considered for admission to HUCD, the applicant must have successfully completed the National Dental Boards Examinations, Parts I and II.
