The Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Howard's Graduate School is designed for students interested in a broad range of areas in mechanical engineering. The Ph.D. in Biology at Howard's Graduate School has core strengths in two principal areas of research specialization: The Cellular and Molecular Biology area incorporates research programs in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, physiology, developmental biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics. The Ecological, Environmental, and Systematic Biology area includes research programs in ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental biology, conservation biology, and organismal biology.

The Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at Howard's Graduate School is designed for students who desire a broad foundation of engineering knowledge and want to participate in high-impact research to solve complex engineering problems. Our program welcomes applicants with a background in electrical, computer science, mathematics, or engineering science-related fields. Our graduates work in leading-edge businesses in a variety of technology sectors. Others land postdoctoral positions, tenure-track faculty appointments, or senior-level research positions in government.

The Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences at Howard's Graduate School is designed for students interested in the interdisciplinary study of earth systems and the processes that drive extreme weather and global ecological change. The program prepares graduates to pursue careers as faculty at research universities and in the private sector, government research, and environmental consulting.

The Ph.D. in English at Howard's Graduate School aims to produce first-rate scholars and critics well-trained in historical research, theoretical inquiry, and criticism across a broad range of literary and cultural studies. Our program prepares graduates to compete successfully for postdoctoral positions, tenure-track teaching appointments at colleges and universities, and non-profit and private sector careers.

Howard's Graduate Certificate in Women's Studies has the distinct advantage of centering the lives, contributions, and agency of women of diverse cultures. We are one of the select few Women's Studies programs in the country that offers the unique opportunity for graduate-level research with a specialization in Black Women's Studies and the study of women of color, broadly or narrowly defined according to a student's interest.

Howard’s Graduate Certificate in International Studies provides students with an in-depth examination of a range of issues of global concern such as issues of soft power and public diplomacy, international human rights and labor law, relations between nation-states and supranational institutions, defense policy, international business operations and political economy, conflict resolution and peacekeeping, and global health and the environment, among other issues.

Howard's Graduate Certificate in College and University Faculty Preparation meets the professional development needs of current and aspiring faculty interested in developing their knowledge and experience with teaching, learning, and technology in the college and university classroom, in both in-person and online settings. Our 15-credit graduate certificate prepares students to become familiar with contemporary issues, challenges, and opportunities in higher education.

Howard’s Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity is designed for students seeking entry into the cybersecurity industry – in areas like network and cloud security, network management, and risk and threat management – and for network and information systems professionals.
