The Master of Arts (M.A.) in History at Howard’s Graduate School prepares students to pursue further graduate study at the doctoral level or for careers in education, public history, archives administration, law, public affairs, or research in the public and private sectors. Our M.A. in History program is noted for its strengths in regional, traditional, transnational, and comparative historical study.

The Ph.D. in Physics at Howard’s Graduate School offers leading research programs in current and dynamic areas of physics, including quantum materials science, condensed matter and materials physics, elementary particle physics, nuclear physics, renewable energy, astrophysics, cosmology, biophysics, string theory, nanoscience, and optical spectroscopy. With such a rich offering of research areas, you'll have an opportunity to pursue research in most areas of contemporary physics.

The Ph.D. in Sociology at Howard's Graduate School prepares students for academic careers and senior-level positions as social scientists in applied research and policy, social services, government, the public sector, and private industry. Recent program graduates have landed faculty positions at top colleges and research universities, including Georgetown University, George Washington University, Rosemont College, Alabama A&M University, and Bowie State University.

The M.A. in Sociology at Howard's Graduate School prepares students for careers in applied social science research and policy, social services, government, and private industry or to pursue further graduate study at the doctoral level. Our program is theoretically, empirically, and analytically rigorous. As an M.A. in Sociology student, you will learn to integrate sociological theory with quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches to conduct policy-relevant research and hone your ability to present your research results to multiple audiences.

Medical physicists can advise clinicians on the safe and effective use of medical devices in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and help provide patients with life-changing care. The CAMPEP Accredited Master of Science (M.S.) in Medical Physics at Howard’s Graduate School integrates principles of physics, engineering, and biomedical sciences for clinical applications in the diagnosis and treatment of human diseases such as cancer and heart disease.

As a doctoral student in Mathematics at Howard's Graduate School, you will gain a solid foundation in the mathematical formulation of real-life problems in industry, finance, education, and infectious disease modeling, to name a few areas. Our Ph.D. program in Mathematics will prepare you, like so many of our graduate alumni, to pursue a mathematics career in industry, research, government, or teaching (as a faculty in a college or university mathematics department, curriculum specialist, or mathematics teacher).

The Ph.D. in Biology at Howard's Graduate School has core strengths in two principal areas of research specialization: The Cellular and Molecular Biology area incorporates research programs in immunology, cellular and molecular biology, genetics, neurobiology, physiology, developmental biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics. The Ecological, Environmental, and Systematic Biology area includes research programs in ecology, evolutionary biology, environmental biology, conservation biology, and organismal biology.

The Ph.D. in English at Howard's Graduate School aims to produce first-rate scholars and critics well-trained in historical research, theoretical inquiry, and criticism across a broad range of literary and cultural studies.
