Admission Requirements

Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Data Science program follows the standard Howard University admissions process.
 

New first-year and transfer students are admitted through the university's Admissions Office. Students currently enrolled in the university who wish to transfer into the Department of Mathematics or develop a double major or minor should have a grade point average of 2.00 or higher. 

To declare the major, students should list: Dr. Bourama Toni (Advisor)

Required Courses

The Bachelor of Science in Data Science requires completion of core coursework in mathematics, statistics, computer science, and data science, along with concentration electives and a capstone experience. The curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in computational, statistical, and analytical methods.

Students complete additional coursework including:

  • Mathematics/Data Science electives

  • General Education and COAS Required courses required by the University

Degree Requirements

To earn the Bachelor of Science in Data Science, students must:

  • Complete a minimum of 120 credit hours (Data Science Curriculum)
  • Complete all required Data Science core courses
  • Complete required mathematics, statistics, and programming coursework
  • Complete approved concentration electives
  • Complete an internship
  • Successfully complete the two-semester Capstone Project
  • Complete all Howard University General Education requirements
  • Maintain the minimum GPA required by the University
  • Satisfy Howard University residence requirements

The Capstone Project serves as the culminating experience, allowing students to apply data science methods to real-world problems through supervised research based on the selected concentration.
