Music Education | Graduate

Candidates for the Master of Music in Music Education degree must complete a total of 35 or 38 credits, depending on the final project option chosen.  They will minor in an orchestral instrument, organ, piano or voice.

Candidates who select the recital or thesis option must complete
     • 9 credits in the major concentration, including music education or professional education;
     • 15 credits in conducting, performance, theory, and music history and literature;
     • 9 credits in electives, including 3 in thesis work or recital; and
     • 1 credit each for the Graduate Expository Writing Examination and the Oral Comprehensive Examination;
for a total of 35 credits.

Candidates who choose not to present a thesis or recital must complete
     • 12 credits in the major concentration, including music education or professional education;
     • 15 credits in graduate courses in conducting, performance, theory, and music history and literature;
     • 9 credits in electives; and
     • 1 credit each for the Expository Writing Examination and the Oral Comprehensive Examination;
for a total of 38 credits.
